Demand from on-the-move companies skyrockets after housing boom
MADISON, Wisconsin (WMTV) – The real estate boom is having a ripple effect on the moving industry, causing demand to skyrocket.
NBC15 has registered with over 10 companies in our viewing area who said they are all trying to keep up with demand.
“It’s a roller coaster. We’ve grown so much over the past year, ”said DeAndrew Foy, owner of Top Notch Movers.
Foy’s moving business came to a screeching halt when Covid struck.
“Business has slowed down. We weren’t sure we could keep running, ”he said.
Top Notch Movers was one of the many moving companies to feel the pinch.
Foy said people who have lost their jobs have led to a decrease in the number of clients planning to relocate.
“It was really hard. Things are accelerating now, ”he said. “We’ve been through this and things are better than ever. ”
Now he said phone lines stay busy and trucks stay loaded.
“We have phones that ring all the time. We have out-of-state moves two to three times a week in addition to other local moves, ”said Foy.
Business owners said it was already rush hour for people to pack their bags and move, and the booming real estate market has skyrocketed demand.
“I’ll take a five minute phone call, and then after five minutes I’ll have five more missed calls to join,” said Mike Nikola, owner of Big Dog Movers.
He said it was difficult to meet demand with limited staff.
“Right now we don’t have enough guys to keep up with the demand,” he said.
He said being too busy is a good thing to have.
“The moving industry, I would call it recession proof,” he said. “This is something Covid hasn’t changed at all. People still need to move after their lease.
Business owners have said that if you need moving services, register early. Some companies said they were already full of appointments until the end of June.
