Doniphan Co. roofer temporarily banned from doing business
Schmidt alleged that Murry accepted payment from a client for roofing services, but did not complete the project and left part of the building without shingles. He said Murry also did not register as a roofing contractor with his office, as required by law. According to AG Schmidt, Rocky Murry, of Troy, doing business as Murry 66, was ordered to reimburse $ 6,760 to a client of Doniphan Co. and was temporarily banned from operating as a roofing contractor in Kansas until he has obtained a roofing contractor registration certificate. He said District Judge James A. Patton issued a default judgment after Murry failed to respond to a complaint filed in April. He said Murry was also ordered to pay a civil fine of $ 90,000.
Schmidt said he wanted to remind customers to make sure roofing contractors are properly registered before signing a contract or having work done. He said customers should request a copy of their roofer’s registration and then check the AG’s protection website to confirm that the roofer’s registration is in good standing.
