I’m a pest control expert – how to keep fruit flies away with an item you usually throw in the trash
TRYING to eat healthy can seem like a challenge in itself, so the last thing you need are fruit flies hovering around your healthy snacks and forcing you towards the cookie jar.
According to experts, you can use an object that usually ends up in the trash to keep flies away from your fruit basket.
According to house specialist Babs, known to her Instagram followers as Brunch With Babs, you can repel fruit flies with just a cork of wine.
Babs called the hack “the French grandma’s trick to keeping fruit flies away and making your fruit last longer.”
“Once you’re done drinking your wine, dry off your cork, make sure it’s real and not synthetic,” Babs told her followers.
She continued, “Just cut your cork in half, place each half of the work in your bowl of fruit.”
“Natural cork absorbs moisture from the air, which means a slower ripening process, which means fresher fruit for longer,” Babs explained.
Fans of the home expert took to Instagram’s comments section to share their appreciation for the hack.
“It works!!! I haven’t had a single fruit fly all summer!” said a viewer.
“Okay, so what I’m really hearing here is wine before fruit – thanks Babs, I get the mission!” another follower joked.
A third person said, “Hmmm I love it!! Leaving some red cooking wine around will also help get rid of fruit flies.”
“I’m French and I didn’t even know it,” said another user.
