Multicultural center to integrate into Lutheran social services
SIOUX FALLS, SD (Dakota News Now) – The Sioux Falls Multicultural Center and Lutheran Social Services are moving forward together into the future. By next month, both organizations will be under the same administration.
Small as it is, the Multicultural Center has had a big impact in Sioux Falls with its programming and services. But interim CEO Laurie Knutson knows there are always challenges ahead.
“To stay relevant, every organization must grow and change. While this may seem like a big change, for the long term success of the organization we are excited to align ourselves with a group like Lutheran Social Services, LSS Group which has been in this community for over 100 years. Knutson said.
The Multicultural Center will now become a service of the LSS. The goal of the integration is to help MCC services and make them more efficient, by transferring administrative and management roles under the LSS.
“I think the process has been really good. A very thorough process that allowed us to take a closer look at our two organizations. I think both councils have confirmed that there is a very good synergy. said LSS President and CEO Rebecca Kiesow-Knudsen.
Knutson said almost all of their staff will be with them after the onboarding process. One thing that will not change, no matter the name of the multicultural center.
“Because we know the name is recognized. We know its purpose is complementary to that of LSS, and they see value in it. This fits well with their Center for New Americans. Knutson said.
Eventually, the Multicultural Center will be based out of the LSS Center for New Americans on 6th Street. The Colosseum, however, will always be a focal point for their services. As the two organizations hope to start a new story together.
“We have a 102-year history of service delivery here in Sioux Falls, and we have great stability and excellent administrative oversight. We hope that this stability and some of these back-office operations can help strengthen the work of MCC in the community. said Kiesow-Knudsen.
Lutheran Social Services will take over the management of the Multicultural Center on October 1. A final transition plan is still in the works, but both organizations hope to have everything finalized by early next year.
