TBR View: Leeds must be relieved Pascal Struijk never left last summer amid loan reports
A lot can happen in football in a year which has been proven by Leeds United youngster Pascal Struijk.
Struijk made five first-team appearances last season while promoting the club to the Championship and was a marginal player, but he turned out to be quite important in the Premier League.
The 21-year-old was linked with an exit from Elland Road last season on loan.
But the left foot ended up staying with the Whites last summer and has subsequently made 20 senior appearances already this season in all competitions.
He was introduced to the Leeds squad as a defensive midfielder but his best position is at the heart of defense and it looks like in the long run he will surely be a center-back.
The £ 7,000 per week (SpotracColossus is excellent in the air and composed on the ball, and his versatility to play in multiple positions makes him a perfect choice for manager Marcelo Bielsa.
A loan during the ongoing 2020/21 campaign would have given Struijk the opportunity to play football regularly, but in hindsight keeping him at Elland Road proved to be the right choice and he was sped up in more minutes due to injuries elsewhere on the team.
Leeds may not have known about Struijk’s abilities in the Premier League for some time had he been on loan, so it looks like they got away with one as he is now in full swing.
