For the past 16 years, West Alice Youth Center has served Rancho Alegre and surrounding areas, particularly during the summer months. This year, the center’s roof needed repair and a local roofing company stepped in to help.
“Our roof has been leaking for two years and it was too expensive to replace it,” said Roman Gonzalez, president of the youth center. “We had tried to find someone to help us with the cost, but that didn’t happen.”
Word of the roof’s need for repair spread to Paul Rueda, the senior project manager for Raging Bull Inc., a San Diego-based roofing and construction company.
“We heard about the youth center’s roof problem and decided to help,” Rueda said. “I contacted Elastek who is one of our roofing material suppliers and they donated all the cladding material to us to repair the roof.”
Every year, the youth center has its youth program with the help of donors. In the past, donors have helped provide supplies for children to have a safe, clean and fun environment. This year was a little different thanks to Raging Bull Inc.
“Sometimes it takes someone like Marc Rueda and his company, Raging Bull Inc., to step in and make a big difference for an organization like ours that is limited on funds,” Gonzalez said. “Without his help, we would still be forced to place bins inside the building every time it rained.”
Gonzalez said roof repairs were completed before heavy rains a few weeks ago and not a single drop of water entered the building.
“Mike Chapa has been providing free pest control and bug spray for the youth center since 2007, and now it’s great that Marc Rueda and his company are helping us with our needs as well,” he added. . “It makes our job a lot easier knowing we have people we can count on to keep these kids safe and entertained over the summer.”
