The Abu Dhabi Waste Management Center (Tadweer) said it handled more than 1,860,000 tonnes of waste, including 88,382 tonnes of medical and hazardous waste, and handled 50,000 pest control requests during the first half of 2022. This is part of the Centre’s ongoing program. efforts to build an effective integrated waste management and pest control system in Abu Dhabi.
In the first half of 2022, Tadweer succeeded in diverting 34% of all Abu Dhabi waste from landfills and diverting 50% of waste resulting from demolition and construction operations, 93% of hazardous waste, 3% of waste green and 6% animal waste away from landfills. This is part of Tadweer’s efforts to support the UAE’s vision for 2030.
The Centre’s achievements in the first half of 2022 include the signing of operational contracts for pest control services and the reduction of disease-carrying pests. In addition to adopting the No Objection Certificate (NOC) electronic approval system in Abu Dhabi, as well as organizing awareness campaigns throughout the emirate.

Waste Treatment Tadweer is committed to treating and recycling all kinds of waste, medical and hazardous waste being among the most crucial types of waste which the Center treats using the best available standards and practices in the field. This is achieved through its three centers located in the emirate of Abu Dhabi, which collect, transport and treat all medical waste produced by hospitals, clinics, health centers, pharmacies, educational institutions, etc. . This waste is incinerated at high temperatures of up to 1,200 degrees Celsius, while adhering to UAE environmental and health best practices.
In line with the emirate’s vision to achieve environmental goals related to proper waste management, recycling and waste diversion from landfills, Tadweer recycled approximately 29,000 tonnes of agricultural and animal waste in the first half of 2022 This produced approximately 13,000 tonnes of waste. organic fertilizer, in addition to producing approximately 1,200,000 tons of recycled gravel from demolition and construction waste in Abu Dhabi during the same period.
The overall amount of recyclable waste collected from recyclable collection centers during the first half of this year amounts to 39 tons of waste. 67% of which consisted of paper and cardboard, in addition to plastic, wood, clothing, expired medicines, used batteries, metals, aluminum cans, glassware, etc.
Pest control Regarding pest control, the rate of infestation by disease-carrying pests has dropped to 1.9%, which is well below the minimum accepted rate of 5%. Mosquito infestations dropped to 1.4% as smart mosquito traps increased to 640 traps in the emirate. The Center also received 50,000 disease vector, pest and stray animal control requests, all of which were handled in accordance with the highest international standards and global practices.
Waste Sector Monitoring The Center has detected approximately 1095 cases of arbitrary solid waste dumping and 5248 cases of sewage dumping in Abu Dhabi.
Public Awareness Tadweer has organized approximately 21 awareness campaigns in Abu Dhabi, including field trips to various educational institutions and government agencies, benefiting over 14,000 people in Abu Dhabi, Al Ain and Al Dhafra. This aligns directly with Tadweer’s commitment to raising environmental awareness of the importance of proper waste treatment and disposal and environmental protection.
